September Collective Haul – Sephora, Sigma brushes and Korean BB Creams

What’s happening peeps?  So, I have been a little obsessed with makeup/beauty stuff this last month.  I am not really sure why, but part of it is because I have been looking for some new solutions and doing research on the interwebs.  Also, my husband and I are going to South Korea next month for vacation and I have been stocking up on stuff that I will want to take along.  I have also been on the look out for some cute fall looks for Korea – as it will be about 20 degrees cooler there.  I will post some of these items in a separate “fashion” post. Yes!

So the first haul was Sephora.  I have a love/hate relationship with Sephora.  I LOVE how you can go there and try everything on and get samples but I HATE how expensive everything is.  :(  Anywho, I picked up the following items on my last trip there:  Makeup Forever HD Primer in #1(Green), First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Eye Cream, Laura Mercier Undercover Pot (#2), and First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream – travel size.

MF HD Primer in #1 – Green to correct redness

First Aid Beauty: 5 in 1 eye cream and Ultra Repair Cream

So far I am liking the products – I don’t notice a huge difference with the Makeup Forever primer – but it does seem to tone down the redness a bit.  I like the FAB eye cream – it is light weight and wears well under makeup.

Laura Mercier Undercover Pot – #2

I am somewhat undecided on the Laura Mercier undercover pot.  I was having a tough time deciding in the store between the #2 and #3 pot – my skin is a little darker than usual because of the summer – so I decided to go with the lighter of the two.  It comes with two tones of concealer – one is a lighter more matte finish (camouflage cream) and the other color is slightly darker and more moist.  The bottom of the pot unscrews to reveal a setting powder.  I think it does a decent job of covering undereye darkness – much better than my MAC moisture cover concealer (which I still use – in fact in conjunction with this pot – it’s even better!).  Lastly, the FAB Ultra Repair Cream – I like this lotion for my hands.  Supposedly you can use it on your face too, but it seems a little thick for me.  It is not a greasy formula though, so if you have patches of dry skin like me – it’s worth a shot!

My second haul was some Korean BB Creams that I purchased from Amazon.  BB Creams are kind of a “trendy” tinted moisturizer/foundation.  The fad started in Asia – and the creams usually have some sort of brightening/whitening quality as well as other anti-aging properties.  The ones that I picked up were Etude House Precious Mineral Bright Fit BB Cream (W24 – Honey Beige) and Holika & Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB Cream (no.2).

*Etude House* Precious Mineral Bright Fit BB Cream (W24) and Holika & Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB Cream (2)

I have tried both, the Etude House BB Cream looks a bit dark for me – but it blends in surprisingly well.  I may pick up the lighter one when I am in Korea, because I like the consistency of this one.  The Holika & Holika one is certainly lighter than the Etude House cream and it gives a nice soft finish to my face.  I would say they are BOTH pretty thick and they both give medium to full coverage.  Mind you, I am not used to wearing much foundation at all – I usually use MAC Matchmaster and I put a really thin layer on before setting it with my MAC Mineralize Skin Finish powder.  Overall, I like that both of these BB Creams come with SPF and other good stuff for your skin – and I will definitely be wearing both of them.

My third and final haul was a splurge for some Sigma brushes.  I have been hearing very good things about Sigma brushes in general.  I have several MAC brushes that I have collected over the years, and I love them.  I decided on a few eye makeup brushes from Sigma that I will definitely use.  Their brushes individually are significantly cheaper than MAC ones – so I would recommend them for that alone.

Well, that is pretty much it for now – please comment!

**Update 2/1/2013 – so I ended up taking back the Laura Mercier undercover pot – it wasn’t working great color-wise and frankly, I got sick of having to use both formulas to blend.  I did replace it with the Bobbi Brown Color Corrector in – Light Peach which I LOVE.  I also have been using Makeup Forever Full Cover Cream in 6 for blemishes and dark spots on my face and body.  I also like this.  I will try to do a more detailed review on these 2 soon!

All Natural Home Hair Recipes

So, last night I decided to go all out with some home hair recipes that I have heard of/found online. The first one is a deep conditioner treatment with avocados and the second one is good ‘ol apple cider vinegar. I color my hair and it can get pretty dried out on the ends….so a deep condition every now and then is in order.

Looks tasty! Haha.

The recipe is something like this:  1 avocado (mashed up as much as possible – into a paste like substance), 1 tbsp of honey, 1 tbsp olive oil.  I only had half an avocado and my hair is short so I halved the recipe.  I started applying it onto the ends and then worked my way up – avoiding my actual scalp. I left it on for about 25 minutes because I decided to do a facial mask as well.  My overall impression is:  It is messy.  Bits and pieces kept falling off, which made Willy very happy – but it was annoying to clean up my sink area afterwards.  Also, it smells like sweet guacamole.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to eat avocados – but smelling it in my hair was kind of weird.  I will admit that my hair felt softer afterwards – I shampooed and conditioned it as usual after rinsing out the gook.  It looked a little dull though – maybe there was still some residue on it.  Anywho, I wonder if a dash of lemon or lime juice would help too – maybe the natural acids would help the oils and conditioner to sink in more.  (I don’t know if I would try that on colored hair though).

Alright so that was the avocado treatment, the second one that I tried was an apple cider vinegar spray for my oily roots.  I have this problem of my hair being really oily/almost like a product build up on my roots on the back of my head.  I have had a recent thought that this could actually be hard water build-up (Arizona is known for the heavy mineral deposits in the tap water).  So I did some research on this and most people are saying that a little apple cider vinegar rinse would help.  My mom has been rinsing her hair with vinegar for years – I remember the potent smell of it when I was a kid.  Yuck.  Anyway, it’s not that bad – but I was concerned that it wouldn’t be great for colored hair.  Well, I spritzed on a little mixture of 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (unfiltered would be best, but I only had the cooking kind) and 1 cup of filtered water.  I really only concentrated on my root area and then let it sit for a few minutes and then rinsed.

The next day after I got ready…looks shiny-ish.

I didn’t notice a huge difference – but I don’t think you are supposed to after the first time.  It is actually a great treatment for dry/itchy scalp as well.  I get that occasionally too.  I didn’t notice a significant change in my color either – maybe slightly less red.  Although I must point out that my hair color is not permanent – it is the type that washes out naturally over 20 or so shampoos.  It’s been 3 weeks since I had my hair colored anyway.  But if you are worried it might effect your color – than skip it!

Overall – I am all for trying natural products – especially when it is stuff I can easily obtain in my house!  Yay!  If any of you guys have any home treatments/remedies for hair or skin – let me know!

Bye for now!

MAC Haul August 2012

What’s up peeps?  So I have been working on doing a MAC Makeup “Haul” because I went there last week to pick up a few things.  The main item I went there for was to get a new Pro Palette for my eyeshadows that I spent an entire evening “depotting”.  It was a pain in my arse – but now I have them all in one easy access palette. Yay!  I don’t typically buy this much stuff when I go there – but I also took advantage of their Back 2 MAC program where you turn in 6 empty MAC containers/bottles and you get: a free lipstick, palette eyeshadow (pro palette doesn’t count), or a lipglass.  I chose to get a lipstick.  I was also excited about the Cleanse Off Oil because I have been struggling to find a face wash that removes all the makeup/dirt/grime in one go.  Now I use the Cleanse Off Oil in combo with my other favorite face wash – Philosophy’s Purity.  Good times.

MAC Cleanse off oil – in Tranquil. I love this stuff, it dissolves your makeup and then you rinse it off!

Here is a picture of my beautiful new Pro Palette – complete with the three new shades -

Blanc Type (top left), Shale (Far right, middle) and Naked Lunch (bottom left)

And the lipsticks….From left to right: Viva Glam V, Bombshell and Ravishing

Welp, that’s all for now folks. Hope my video didn’t bore you too much (lots of “umms” – sorry bout that!).  More stuff with Willy in it to come!

Take care!

A lazy Labor Day weekend

It is a rare day when my husband has time off.  It is even more rare if he has a 3-day weekend off!  This weekend just so happens to be one of those rare ones….lucky for me.  :)  Unfortunately for me, he is sick.  I am also starting to feel a little sick myself – Lame!

So, in honor of it being a 3 day weekend, this is what I am going to do today – in no particular order:

  • Update my blog (yes, that is now!)
  • Play some Star Ocean on my xbox 360 (nerd alert! IGN Review Here)
  • Go to Target (although I may decide to put this off until tomorrow)
  • Take a nap
  • Read my book (“The Name of the Wind”) – I will post a review on it when I finish!
  • Take care of my sick husband – this isn’t last on my list because I don’t want to do it…it’s an all day activity!
  • Make dinner – perhaps veggie burgers?
  • Sleep?

This is how Willy chooses to spend his weekend

That is all for now – I will be posting something more interesting later – I promise!
