What’s happening peeps? So, I have been a little obsessed with makeup/beauty stuff this last month. I am not really sure why, but part of it is because I have been looking for some new solutions and doing research on the interwebs. Also, my husband and I are going to South Korea next month for vacation and I have been stocking up on stuff that I will want to take along. I have also been on the look out for some cute fall looks for Korea – as it will be about 20 degrees cooler there. I will post some of these items in a separate “fashion” post. Yes!
So the first haul was Sephora. I have a love/hate relationship with Sephora. I LOVE how you can go there and try everything on and get samples but I HATE how expensive everything is. :( Anywho, I picked up the following items on my last trip there: Makeup Forever HD Primer in #1(Green), First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Eye Cream, Laura Mercier Undercover Pot (#2), and First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream – travel size.
MF HD Primer in #1 – Green to correct redness
First Aid Beauty: 5 in 1 eye cream and Ultra Repair Cream
So far I am liking the products – I don’t notice a huge difference with the Makeup Forever primer – but it does seem to tone down the redness a bit. I like the FAB eye cream – it is light weight and wears well under makeup.
Laura Mercier Undercover Pot – #2
I am somewhat undecided on the Laura Mercier undercover pot. I was having a tough time deciding in the store between the #2 and #3 pot – my skin is a little darker than usual because of the summer – so I decided to go with the lighter of the two. It comes with two tones of concealer – one is a lighter more matte finish (camouflage cream) and the other color is slightly darker and more moist. The bottom of the pot unscrews to reveal a setting powder. I think it does a decent job of covering undereye darkness – much better than my MAC moisture cover concealer (which I still use – in fact in conjunction with this pot – it’s even better!). Lastly, the FAB Ultra Repair Cream – I like this lotion for my hands. Supposedly you can use it on your face too, but it seems a little thick for me. It is not a greasy formula though, so if you have patches of dry skin like me – it’s worth a shot!
My second haul was some Korean BB Creams that I purchased from Amazon. BB Creams are kind of a “trendy” tinted moisturizer/foundation. The fad started in Asia – and the creams usually have some sort of brightening/whitening quality as well as other anti-aging properties. The ones that I picked up were Etude House Precious Mineral Bright Fit BB Cream (W24 – Honey Beige) and Holika & Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB Cream (no.2).
*Etude House* Precious Mineral Bright Fit BB Cream (W24) and Holika & Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB Cream (2)
I have tried both, the Etude House BB Cream looks a bit dark for me – but it blends in surprisingly well. I may pick up the lighter one when I am in Korea, because I like the consistency of this one. The Holika & Holika one is certainly lighter than the Etude House cream and it gives a nice soft finish to my face. I would say they are BOTH pretty thick and they both give medium to full coverage. Mind you, I am not used to wearing much foundation at all – I usually use MAC Matchmaster and I put a really thin layer on before setting it with my MAC Mineralize Skin Finish powder. Overall, I like that both of these BB Creams come with SPF and other good stuff for your skin – and I will definitely be wearing both of them.
My third and final haul was a splurge for some Sigma brushes. I have been hearing very good things about Sigma brushes in general. I have several MAC brushes that I have collected over the years, and I love them. I decided on a few eye makeup brushes from Sigma that I will definitely use. Their brushes individually are significantly cheaper than MAC ones – so I would recommend them for that alone.
Well, that is pretty much it for now – please comment!
**Update 2/1/2013 – so I ended up taking back the Laura Mercier undercover pot – it wasn’t working great color-wise and frankly, I got sick of having to use both formulas to blend. I did replace it with the Bobbi Brown Color Corrector in – Light Peach which I LOVE. I also have been using Makeup Forever Full Cover Cream in 6 for blemishes and dark spots on my face and body. I also like this. I will try to do a more detailed review on these 2 soon!
