An Update….Finally! Baby is 5 months!!

Hey-O Readers,
Okay, so it’s been a long time since I updated but I didn’t anticipate having NO motivation to do anything blog related after having my baby. Not to mention my little munchkin does not take naps….ever. So any time I have to myself is spent on routine self-care like taking a shower. Haha. Now I am beginning to get my mojo back so I am going to try to keep this thing going for a bit.

Anywho, our baby – Effie Rose – is doing awesome! She is 5 months old now, I can’t believe how fast she is growing! The last Doctor’s appointment proved that she was growing fast – she was nearly 15 pounds! She is such a blessing to our lives (pugs included).

Here is my final bump comparison:

The final "bump" comparison - 5 months late.

My goals in the next few posts is to highlight the baby gear I have found the most helpful and then also do some beauty related posts. So stay tuned!

Baby Effie and her two pug brothers Felix and Willy!

See you soon!

Baby Bump Update (Last?!) + Nursery Pics!

Hello Readers,

So I thought I did a post for my 35 week baby bump update – but turns out I did not.  Oops! It’s been a crazy busy last month!  Last minute preparations for baby.  I am currently 38 weeks and going strong!  At my last doc visit, she said I was 2cm dilated and 80% effaced – which in layman’s terms means I could have the baby any day – or it could be weeks yet!  Only Effie knows when she will come.  :)

So, here is the bump update that I missed:

31-35 week baby bump comparison!

Aaaaaaand the latest one (perhaps the last?):

So, not sure if I will make it to 39 – but that will probably be the last one I will do – and then it’s BABY time! Hehe.

Okay – so we FINALLY got the nursery done. I was dragging my feet on a few projects and Ryan helped me complete them this weekend. Namely, the accessory board and hanging some last frames on the walls.

The origami bird/twig mobile is one of my favorite parts! Ryan constructed this for me after I showed him some ideas I had (thanks Pintrest!). I LOVE the dresser my mom and sister Kelli painted for me. The bunting flags are ones we made for my shower that I hung above the closet doors.

This is the other side of the nursery - the changing table we got from IKEA - and we "hacked" the Expedit shelving unit by adding legs. The accessory board was this weekends project! I had an old picture board that I recovered with fabric and ribbon. It holds all of Effie's hair accessories and cute pins!

Well, now the waiting game is on! I feel much better today about preparedness than I did a week ago. The next update will either be another bump update or it will include a cute BABY! Ahhhhhhhhh!

We don't want to leave Felix and Willy (in back) out of the picture! They are patiently awaiting baby's arrival.

32 Weeks + shower pics!

Hello All,

Okay – so this blog has become 100% babycentric.  Sorry pugs.   Dems da breaks.

Anywhoski, I am currently 32 weeks and I have a new baby bump comparison ready for you – I missed my “30″ week mark because we were moving in the weeks prior and it was my baby shower weekend – so lots to prepare for!

26-31 Weeks

Speaking of baby shower, mine was AMAZING. My oldest sister, Rox, did a wonderful job coordinating things and my other sis Kel and my mom helped out a ton too. I am so lucky! Here are a few highlights:

My shower stash!! I am so blessed. The dresser was custom painted by my mom and sister Kelli. Awesome!

Instead of games (we still had a few) - we had a onesie decorating craft! I was pleasantly surprised how they all turned out! This is the day after my shower and even my nieces and nephews made one for Effie. So cute!!

My sister Kelli even made one to match my nursery inspiration print! Sorry, I was just about to hold it up proper. :)

My husband made mini strawberry shortcakes for the party - they were a hit!

And last but not least - Me (and Effie). I had SO much fun and we received so many great gifts and onesies to start out with our baby!

Then after the baby shower, my mother-in-law – Helen – threw Ryan and I an “after-party” shower.  It was decked out in pink and there was lots of tasty food.  Too bad Ryan decided to show up fashionably late.  Haha.

Phew! It’s getting HOT here in AZ. I always forget how darn hot it gets during the summer….sigh. Lately I have been continuing to unpack (yes we are still settling in to our new place, almost a month later). Turns out even though we have an extra bedroom and a backyard, we have less storage space. I went to having lots of counterspace and cabinet space in my bathrooms to almost nothing. Right now all the bedroom closets are shoved full of stuff. I want to get that all sorted out and even get rid of some stuff if need be before Effie comes.

Well, I think that is good for now.  Next up I hope to post some pics of the nursery!!

26 Weeks

Herrrrrrro.

So, it’s been ANOTHER 4 weeks since my last update.  Man, has a lot changed since.  Not only do I need maternity stuff now, but I have gained about 10 pounds since last time.  Woot woot.  The little babe inside me is kicking all the time and she is getting bigger by the day!

Here is a fun little comparison since last time:

This will be the last picture taken in our apt - moving next week!

This will be the last picture taken in our current place – the next one will be in our new house!

We are moving into our new place next week and I feel like then I can finally start working on the nursery. We have our crib and mattress but they need to be set up so we are waiting until we move since they are boxed up nicely right now. I can’t wait to have more space in our next rental! An extra bedroom and a backyard…yes!!

Felix is happy.

It is getting HAWT in AZ – highs in the 90s. Ewwww. Not fun being pregnant when it is so darn hot out. I try to spend my time (when I am not working from home) doing fun things like painting my nails. Here is the latest experiment:

Mint Nails

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet and polka dots in Essie Blanc

I finally sent out my Baby Shower invites – it will be on June 15th! I am so excited to celebrate with friends and family. I registered at Babies’R'Us – man, baby stuff is so expensive!! I registered for a few big items like a stroller/car seat combo, an electric breast pump (sister’s recommendation), a travel crib/play-yard, and a monitor – as well as tons of little things that Ryan helped me register for.  Fun! Ryan and I are so excited to get situated in our new place so we can really start putting together the nursery and preparing.  Speaking of preparing, we have our first “Prepared Childbirth” class this Saturday – it should be interesting. I am mostly excited about touring the birthing center.

Welp, that’s about it for now – off to packing!  I will try to post an update after we move.

Baby Bump Update and Whatnot

Hello Folks,

So it’s been about 4 weeks since my last update – and I thought I would show you a new baby bump pic!

Baby Bump 18-22 weeks

So another side-by-side comparison – sorry about the lighting differences….but you get the general idea!

I am not quite ready for maternity wear – at least I haven’t gone out buying any yet. I need to go out soon, probably this week. I was thinking of getting just a few tops, maybe a comfy bottom or two and then a dress. Ryan and I are going to a wedding in LA at the end of the month and I was going to try and re-use a pretty dress I got in October for a wedding. However, it’s a bit too snug in the wrong areas, and it’s just not comfortable right now – let alone in 2 weeks. Sigh…I hate going out and shopping for a very specific item, it makes life difficult.

Anywho – here is a cute ultrasound pic of our baby! Oh yeah, that’s another thing….we found out we are having a GIRL! We are thinking Effie for her first name – my Grandmother’s name on my mom’s side.

Her feet were perfectly together! Hehe....

Her feet were perfectly together! Hehe….

I had a feeling it was going to be a girl – Ryan is so happy! We are going to be moving to a bigger place at the end of May – a 3 bedroom house closer to Ryan’s work. I am excited, we will even have a backyard for the puppies to run around in!

As you can imagine, I have been keeping myself busy with nursery design ideas, registering for my baby shower and in general, just looking at everything and anything baby related. Now that I am more than halfway through, it seems more real than ever. I can’t believe that Effie will be here in around 4 months!! Crazy-town.

Anywho, I have a few nursery projects up my sleeve – but am mostly waiting to get started on those next month when we are closer to our move date.  I will be sure and post pics of my projects as I complete them.

More to come soon!

Babababa-baby bump?

Welp folks, I can’t believe it’s already mid March.  I thought I would indulge you all with a little baby bump comparison.  Not terribly different, but I can assure you – I FEEL different.  My clothes feel tighter and it’s getting harder to sleep on my back.  I am kinda excited to start “showing”.  I think the 18-20 (or 22) week comparison will be slightly more interesting. ;)

Baby bump - a 14 to 18 week comparison. My body position is slightly different in each one - but I feel like you can see a little somethin somethin...

We have an anatomy ultrasound scheduled for next week – so maybe we will find out if we are having a boy or girl! :)  I have been scouring the web looking for inspiration for nursery rooms, but I won’t know what to look for until we find out what we are having.  I still want the color scheme to be semi-gender neutral.

To indulge your pug fix for the month, here is a pic of Felix:

Felix looking super cute.

In other news – the next few months are going to be busy!  We have a wedding in LA next month to attend, and in May we will be packing up our place and moving into a bigger one (hopefully! fingers crossed!).   More news later this week after our ultrasound! Woot!

Bye for now,

Pugs, Babies and Snow – Oh My!

Hey Folks!

So, one thing I didn’t mention in my first February post is that….welp…I’m pregnant!  We were still waiting to tell family, so I was keeping it a secret.  I am currently 14 weeks – and in my 2nd Trimester!  Woot woot.  Our due date is August 18th.  I apologize in advance if this blog becomes kind of prego-centric for the next 6 months…but thems da breaks!

Baby Announcement

The first several months were no bueno.  I felt nauseous pretty much every day and NOTHING sounded good to eat.  Lately, it has been so much better.  This all explains why my holidays were extra intense!  I was tired and feeling gross. :(  Plus, no holiday beverages for me.  LAME.  This also explains why we decided to get another pug – I blame Ryan for this idea mostly.  He was worried that Willy would get lonely after we introduced a baby in the family, so he wanted him to have a playmate.  Overall, I am glad we got Felix, but man!  I really want to move into a bigger place now, preferable with some sort of a backyard so I don’t have to walk both dogs twice a day.  I like the exercise, but I know further down the road it’s going to get extra tough. Our lease is up in June of this year, so we have already started looking elsewhere for other options.

So, that’s where I am at folks.

In other news – it SNOWED today here in Tucson.  What?  Yes.  First time I have seen this much snow in Southern Arizona in years!  Pretty cool stuff.  I went out and took pictures.  Sorry bout the quality – iphonez.

Snow 2.20

Anywho!  That’s the update for now – more interesting posts to come – maybe even a baby bump in a few weeks. :)

What the what? First post in 2013!

Hello all,

So, first off – I apologize for not posting since September…eek.  There has been a lot going on in my life – travelling, new dogs, holidays…you know…the usual shananigans.  I also was hoping to get a better video camera for Christmas…but no dice.  Sigh.  Welp, looks like pictures will be my main mode of media for now folks.

The biggest change has probably been our new dog. He is so cute and crazy. So, without further adieu, I give you Felix, our new dog!

Willy is on the left and Felix is on the right. I love my pugs.

Willy is on the left and Felix is on the right. I love my pugs.

We decided to get another pug to give Willy someone to hang out with.  We adopted him from the same rescue place where we got Willy – Arizona Pug Adoption Rescue Network – Boy did we get more than we bargained for! They wrestle around all day and sometimes I have to put one or both in crates in order to get some peace and quiet.  I wish we had a backyard they could run around in.  Someday.

Anywho…yeah.  What else?  Well, for the most part I am in a post holiday fog still – I know it’s been a month, but man…this holiday season was cray cray.  We must have driven to our families places (about 2 hours away) every weekend in the month of December.  Talk about draining.  Don’t get me wrong, we loved seeing our families and such, but it certainly takes it’s toll.  My husband has been working very long hours since – averaging about 80 hours a week.

In other news – I have been watching the following shows, and I would recommend them to everyone!

Japanese Anime – “Space Brothers” – this show is so funny. Bonus! It has a pug in it named Apo. My husband and I watch this on our Roku via Crunchyroll. (I do not own this image)

나도, 꽃! (Me Too, Flower !) –  Korean Drama. I love k-dramas, and this one is no exception. If you have not ventured forth into the asian dramas, then you have not lived. (I do not own this image)

I do not own this image.

I love this show so much. I haven’t completed it yet – but there are 3 seasons so far. British drama at it’s finest. (I do not own this image)

Alright folks. That about rounds up my February 1st post. More to come, I promise! Let me know what categories you would like to hear more about!

September Collective Haul – Sephora, Sigma brushes and Korean BB Creams

What’s happening peeps?  So, I have been a little obsessed with makeup/beauty stuff this last month.  I am not really sure why, but part of it is because I have been looking for some new solutions and doing research on the interwebs.  Also, my husband and I are going to South Korea next month for vacation and I have been stocking up on stuff that I will want to take along.  I have also been on the look out for some cute fall looks for Korea – as it will be about 20 degrees cooler there.  I will post some of these items in a separate “fashion” post. Yes!

So the first haul was Sephora.  I have a love/hate relationship with Sephora.  I LOVE how you can go there and try everything on and get samples but I HATE how expensive everything is.  :(  Anywho, I picked up the following items on my last trip there:  Makeup Forever HD Primer in #1(Green), First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Eye Cream, Laura Mercier Undercover Pot (#2), and First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream – travel size.

MF HD Primer in #1 – Green to correct redness

First Aid Beauty: 5 in 1 eye cream and Ultra Repair Cream

So far I am liking the products – I don’t notice a huge difference with the Makeup Forever primer – but it does seem to tone down the redness a bit.  I like the FAB eye cream – it is light weight and wears well under makeup.

Laura Mercier Undercover Pot – #2

I am somewhat undecided on the Laura Mercier undercover pot.  I was having a tough time deciding in the store between the #2 and #3 pot – my skin is a little darker than usual because of the summer – so I decided to go with the lighter of the two.  It comes with two tones of concealer – one is a lighter more matte finish (camouflage cream) and the other color is slightly darker and more moist.  The bottom of the pot unscrews to reveal a setting powder.  I think it does a decent job of covering undereye darkness – much better than my MAC moisture cover concealer (which I still use – in fact in conjunction with this pot – it’s even better!).  Lastly, the FAB Ultra Repair Cream – I like this lotion for my hands.  Supposedly you can use it on your face too, but it seems a little thick for me.  It is not a greasy formula though, so if you have patches of dry skin like me – it’s worth a shot!

My second haul was some Korean BB Creams that I purchased from Amazon.  BB Creams are kind of a “trendy” tinted moisturizer/foundation.  The fad started in Asia – and the creams usually have some sort of brightening/whitening quality as well as other anti-aging properties.  The ones that I picked up were Etude House Precious Mineral Bright Fit BB Cream (W24 – Honey Beige) and Holika & Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB Cream (no.2).

*Etude House* Precious Mineral Bright Fit BB Cream (W24) and Holika & Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB Cream (2)

I have tried both, the Etude House BB Cream looks a bit dark for me – but it blends in surprisingly well.  I may pick up the lighter one when I am in Korea, because I like the consistency of this one.  The Holika & Holika one is certainly lighter than the Etude House cream and it gives a nice soft finish to my face.  I would say they are BOTH pretty thick and they both give medium to full coverage.  Mind you, I am not used to wearing much foundation at all – I usually use MAC Matchmaster and I put a really thin layer on before setting it with my MAC Mineralize Skin Finish powder.  Overall, I like that both of these BB Creams come with SPF and other good stuff for your skin – and I will definitely be wearing both of them.

My third and final haul was a splurge for some Sigma brushes.  I have been hearing very good things about Sigma brushes in general.  I have several MAC brushes that I have collected over the years, and I love them.  I decided on a few eye makeup brushes from Sigma that I will definitely use.  Their brushes individually are significantly cheaper than MAC ones – so I would recommend them for that alone.

Well, that is pretty much it for now – please comment!

Krys

**Update 2/1/2013 – so I ended up taking back the Laura Mercier undercover pot – it wasn’t working great color-wise and frankly, I got sick of having to use both formulas to blend.  I did replace it with the Bobbi Brown Color Corrector in – Light Peach which I LOVE.  I also have been using Makeup Forever Full Cover Cream in 6 for blemishes and dark spots on my face and body.  I also like this.  I will try to do a more detailed review on these 2 soon!

Sigma Brushes: From left to right – E45 (Small Tapered Blending), E65 (Small Angle), E70 (Medium Angled Shading), and E25 (Blending)

All Natural Home Hair Recipes

So, last night I decided to go all out with some home hair recipes that I have heard of/found online. The first one is a deep conditioner treatment with avocados and the second one is good ‘ol apple cider vinegar. I color my hair and it can get pretty dried out on the ends….so a deep condition every now and then is in order.

Looks tasty! Haha.

The recipe is something like this:  1 avocado (mashed up as much as possible – into a paste like substance), 1 tbsp of honey, 1 tbsp olive oil.  I only had half an avocado and my hair is short so I halved the recipe.  I started applying it onto the ends and then worked my way up – avoiding my actual scalp. I left it on for about 25 minutes because I decided to do a facial mask as well.  My overall impression is:  It is messy.  Bits and pieces kept falling off, which made Willy very happy – but it was annoying to clean up my sink area afterwards.  Also, it smells like sweet guacamole.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to eat avocados – but smelling it in my hair was kind of weird.  I will admit that my hair felt softer afterwards – I shampooed and conditioned it as usual after rinsing out the gook.  It looked a little dull though – maybe there was still some residue on it.  Anywho, I wonder if a dash of lemon or lime juice would help too – maybe the natural acids would help the oils and conditioner to sink in more.  (I don’t know if I would try that on colored hair though).

Alright so that was the avocado treatment, the second one that I tried was an apple cider vinegar spray for my oily roots.  I have this problem of my hair being really oily/almost like a product build up on my roots on the back of my head.  I have had a recent thought that this could actually be hard water build-up (Arizona is known for the heavy mineral deposits in the tap water).  So I did some research on this and most people are saying that a little apple cider vinegar rinse would help.  My mom has been rinsing her hair with vinegar for years – I remember the potent smell of it when I was a kid.  Yuck.  Anyway, it’s not that bad – but I was concerned that it wouldn’t be great for colored hair.  Well, I spritzed on a little mixture of 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (unfiltered would be best, but I only had the cooking kind) and 1 cup of filtered water.  I really only concentrated on my root area and then let it sit for a few minutes and then rinsed.

The next day after I got ready…looks shiny-ish.

I didn’t notice a huge difference – but I don’t think you are supposed to after the first time.  It is actually a great treatment for dry/itchy scalp as well.  I get that occasionally too.  I didn’t notice a significant change in my color either – maybe slightly less red.  Although I must point out that my hair color is not permanent – it is the type that washes out naturally over 20 or so shampoos.  It’s been 3 weeks since I had my hair colored anyway.  But if you are worried it might effect your color – than skip it!

Overall – I am all for trying natural products – especially when it is stuff I can easily obtain in my house!  Yay!  If any of you guys have any home treatments/remedies for hair or skin – let me know!

Bye for now!

Krys
